6 Simple Steps To Apply For An NDIS Plan

About the NDIS

Living with a disability can be challenging, but the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is here to help. The NDIS is an Australian government-funded program that provides support and services to people with disabilities, helping them live more independent lives and participate more fully in their communities. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the process of accessing NDIS support, from checking your eligibility to implementing your plan.

Accessing NDIS support

    1. Getting Started

It’s important to first check your eligibility for NDIS support. You’ll need to be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent visa and have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. To determine if you meet these criteria, you can use the NDIS Access Checklist available on the NDIS website

    2. After you know you’re eligible

You’ll then need to gather information and documents that will help support your application. This includes information about your disability, your support needs, and your goals. You may also need to provide documentation such as medical reports or assessments of your disability. Your doctor or health practitioner may be able to help you with this step

    3. Apply for support

To apply for NDIS support, you can fill out an Access Request Form online or contact the NDIS directly on 1800 800 110. The application process can take some time, but don’t worry – the NDIS will work with you to ensure you have the support you need. If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to attend a planning meeting with a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or a National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) planner. You may receive a letter to confirm the decision of your application.

    4. At your planning meeting

At your planning meeting, you’ll discuss your goals, support needs, and the funding you’ll receive under the NDIS. It’s important to be prepared for this meeting by having a clear idea of what you want to achieve and the support you need to achieve it. Your LAC or NDIA planner will then develop a plan that outlines the support and funding you’ll receive under the NDIS. You’ll have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on your plan before it’s finalised.

    5. Kicking off your plan

Once your plan is finalised, you can start accessing the support and services outlined in your plan. This may include things like assistive technology, therapy, or personal care support. Support Coordinators can help you connect with the best providers for you and help you navigate your plan to assist you.

    6. Review and adjust

Your plan will be reviewed regularly to ensure that it continues to meet your needs and goals. You can request a review of your plan at any time if your circumstances change.

The NDIS is a valuable resource for people with disabilities in Australia. If you think you or someone you know may be eligible for NDIS support, take the time to apply and see what support is available. With the right support, people with disabilities can live more independent and fulfilling lives.
